What is Reiki?

Reiki (“ray-key”) is a Japanese technique for relaxation that also promotes healing. Reiki was developed by Dr. Mikao Usui who lived in Japan during the nineteenth century. Reiki is a warm and soothing energy that flows from the palms of the hands to the client, promoting relaxation and releasing tension. It's a safe and natural method that promotes healing and harmonizes the mind, body, spirit, and emotions.

Usui Reiki is a simple yet profound form of natural healing for the body, mind, and spirit. Reiki treatments are uniquely personal and the healing adapts to the needs of each recipient. Rei means "universal," and ki (or chi), in Chinese, means "Life Force Energy." Along with physical healing, many people also find Reiki as a path to personal and spiritual growth.

Although Reiki is often considered a form of alternative or complimentary medicine, all healing is self-healing. We must take responsibility for our own healing and take an active part in it for healing to occur. Complimentary therapies, such as Reiki, can help to restore the body's natural equilibrium and balance. When the body is relaxed and in balance it can cope with everyday stresses and strains of life much more effectively. In this state, you are less prone to sickness, illness and disease. 

What does Reiki do?

Reiki supports your body's natural ability to heal on all levels. It supports healing of all kinds and may relieve pain and acute symptoms very quickly. It also supports spiritual growth. Reiki can affect each person differently but it always works for the recipient's highest good. Reiki works on the body as a whole, balancing the emotions, bringing clarity to the mind and reconnecting to the ‘true self’ which in turn impacts on physical well-being.

When your life force energy is low, you may feel fatigued and become prone to developing illness or disease. This depletion of energy can also lead to stress and anxiety that may prevent you from living up to our full potential.

Forms of energy healing, like Reiki, can help to reverse, or at least mitigate these symptoms of energy loss. During Reiki, energy is transmitted through the hands to help bring the person back into a state of balance. When you achieve this rebalancing of life force energy, you are more able to diminish or prevent illness and disease, find peace and contentment, and to enjoy life to the fullest.

The body's health must be approached as a whole. You cannot treat the symptoms without addressing the cause, and vice-versa. The body, like everything in the universe, is composed of energy. Restore balance to the body's energy, and you will restore the emotional and physical symptoms that are a result of disrupted energy. Reiki healing can help restore this balance on all levels!

What can I expect in a Reiki treatment?

When the session begins I will have a brief conversation with you to discuss any concerns or ailments you may have. It is important you feel comfortable and relaxed during your Reiki treatment. For in-person sessions, I would advise you to wear loose fitting clothes. You will remained fully clothed during the treatment. I normally play soft relaxing music to assist the relaxation response.

 During the session, I will gently rest my hands on (or slightly above) various parts of the body in patterns which include the head, neck, abdomen, arms, legs, back and feet. The body is touched lightly. A warm tingling feeling, deep relaxation, and a peaceful calm are often reported by anyone receiving Reiki. There is no manipulation of the skin or muscle tissue. Reiki sessions are non-invasive and painless.

For distant healing sessions via video, you will sit upright in a chair in front of the screen as I send Reiki to various parts of your body and energy centers. This can also be done remotely by phone if you prefer. 

How does Reiki feel?

Each person's experience of Reiki is different. However, many clients report that they feel calm, peaceful, relaxed and even warm and tingly during the session. Some experience heat, see bright colors or specific images. The peaceful feeling will often last for many hours and sometimes days after a treatment.
